Networking and IT integration
Networking is an inherent part of our products and solutions; by taking advantage of existing port networks we are able to offer distributed and flexible systems.
Our staff are highly experienced in many forms of networking, from simple office networks to redundant high availability corporate LANs encompassing a wide variety of technologies including equipment from HP, Cisco and Alvarion. Where only a simple solution is required, a simple solution is used; in small systems it is not uncommon to not have any networked components.
A typical system consists of radar and other sensors remotely located from the operators. The data is linked back using point-to-point wireless links such as the Alvarion BreezeNet range. Alvarion is in fact a premier partner, and our staff are fully trained in deploying its products. All wireless segments of the network are fully encrypted for data security, and where the sensor data needs to traverse a large distance, we will advise and arrange if required any WAN access work needed. We are happy to work with all solutions ranging from 3G and ADSL, up to multimegabit MPLS, and Ethernet solutions from a range of providers. This ensures there is a solution for every budget.
In larger ports it is often desirable to make use of the corporate network; not only does this reduce installation costs but also means there are people on-site to manage and maintain this part of the system. Our staff are able to advise the best configuration case for your corporate network; typically this consists of a dedicated VLAN with restricted ACLs to ensure that only the minimum required resources can be accessed. We would also recommend the use of IGMP snooping on managed switches, to make efficient use of the multicast traffic that the system uses to exchange data.
When a remote service and support package is purchased, we endeavour to cooperate with your organisation so that we can make use of existing connectivity and infrastructure; remote access is provided via a secure VPN typically on Cisco hardware. At the Ledwood Technology office, all remote access work is performed from a dedicated isolated workstation, and all passwords are stored in a secured, encrypted container.
Where remote support is provided in smaller systems, often we use a service such as LogMeIn to ensure value for money and simplicity for the end user.
The hardware we supply will, in most cases, support standard industry management protocols such as SNMP, Telnet, SSH and so on. All computers run a standard Microsoft Windows OS. Where an organisation wishes to take on management of computers within our provided system, we will work with you to ensure that the application runs smoothly. User management for access rights such as monitoring protected audio channels or performing configuration work can take place through Active Directory Users & Groups.
