VHF and audio

Over the years, the audio recording solutions from Ledwood Technology have grown into a spread of flexible features. We are able to offer audio recording from a variety of sources such as VHF, telephone, microphone (such as in an operations centre) and others.

Telephone recording can include traditional POTS lines and sophisticated VoIP systems. Audio recording can also be offered as a standalone system.

In smaller systems, it is usually quite sufficient to record one or two channels of marine VHF radio, quite often the ports operations channel, and channel 16. The usual way of achieving this is to use one of our own Auris NRRV2 network radio receivers, which is a self contained unit attached to the computer network, and its own antenna; it requires no interaction from operators and will simply interface from the radio signals into the recorder.

Once ports grow out of a smaller system, the audio recording functionality can be expanded to up to 32 channels with distributed capture and record services. The data is multi-casted onto the network, allowing for the efficient use of bandwidth when there are multiple operator workstations.  To ensure a good quality of service, the Auris NRRV2 unit will also output telemetry data about the radio signal such as signal strength.

Recording space is used efficiently by means of an audio detection algorithm; the choice of algorithm allows for only recording data when audio is detected in the signal. There is also the option to record everything.

When it is necessary to record sources which are subject to privacy laws, we provide the facility to mark channels as private or protected.  This is controlled via Microsoft Windows Users & Groups, which includes Active Directory and Domain users, ensuring that only operators and managers who are approved to listen to and review these protected channels have access. Users can be logged in during a playback operation allowing a manager to simply enter their username and password during an operator's session (instead of interrupting and having to restart the session), and then logging out when finished.
